Ocean Pines Golf Members' Council Awards Junior Golf Scholarships
June 15, 2017
The membership of Ocean Pines Golf Club and the Ocean Pines Golf Members’ Council recently awarded four scholarships to area high school seniors in support of their college plans for the 2017-18 school year.
A $2,100 scholarship was presented to Ocean Pines resident Hailey Brown. Brown, an employee of Ocean Pines Golf Club, has worked in the golf shop and at bag drop. She has also assisted with Ocean Pines junior golf camps, clinics and has participated in the course’s junior golf tournaments as well as on the Stephen Decatur High School golf team. She will study nursing at Towson University.
Matthew Kristick, also an Ocean Pines resident and Stephen Decatur golf team member, received a $700 scholarship. An honor student and All-Conference golfer, he will attend Temple University and play on the school’s golf team.
Berlin resident Bailey Warren also received a $700 scholarship and plans to attend Coastal Carolina University as a student in the professional golf management program. Warren was a four-year member of the Stephen Decatur golf team and was involved with Special Olympics.
Grant Brown, a recent graduate of Worcester Preparatory School, was awarded a $500 scholarship. A member of his school’s golf team and the National Honor Society, he will attend Coastal Carolina University’s golf management program.
The Ocean Pines Golf Members’ Council presents scholarships annually to students from Ocean Pines and local areas. The scholarships are intended for those who have shown an interest in golf; active participation in competitive golf is not required. Golf team members and recreational golfers as well as those students who are interested in golf management and turf science are encouraged to apply.
Several golf events sponsored by the Ocean Pines Golf Members’ Council, including Sunday golf socials and the annual Taylor Bank / Ocean Pines Golf Tournament (held this year on Aug. 16), help raise money for the scholarship fund.
