Ravens Roost seeks sponsors, participants for 2024 Scholarship Golf Tournament

(UPDATED May 6, 2024) Ocean City Ravens Roost #44 will hold their 27th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Friday, May 31 at the Ocean Pines Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones designed course.

Tournament organizers are seeking players and sponsors for the event.

All tournament proceeds will fund college scholarships to three local high schools: Indian River High School, Stephen Decatur High School, and Worcester Preparatory School.

Event committee member Don McMullen said scholarship funding this year would at least match the 2023 totals, which tied a record donation by the nonprofit.

“Due to successful fundraising by our members and the continued support by our local business community, Ravens Roost #44 is proud to announce that we will award a minimum of $15,000 to our local students graduating in 2024. This will take our total awards to $258,900 to local students since the inception of our grant giving,” he said.

“We welcome participation in our event as golfers and tee sign sponsors. Merchandise and gift certificates for our silent auction are also needed for this event,” McMullen continued. “Please inquire to a Ravens Roost #44 golf committee member if your business would like to become either a Signature or Major Sponsor. These types of sponsorships help underwrite the cost of the banquet or merchandise given to participating golfers.

“Again, we appreciate your continuing support of our local students by providing them with education assistance to better their future,” he said.

Ravens Roost #44, Inc. is an IRS 501(C)(7) nonprofit organization.

The following sponsorship levels are available:

  • Signature Sponsor: $2,000 – Includes two team entries, four tee signs, recognition at the tournament banquet, and business recognition on the tournament banner. Signature Sponsors without team entries will cost $1,400.
  • Major Sponsor: $1,000 – Includes a team entry, two tee signs, recognition at the tournament banquet, and business recognition on the tournament banner. Major Sponsors without team entries will cost $700.
  • Tee Sign Sponsor: $100

Golf Club issues reminder about course access and respect for property

(UPDATED April 9, 2024) The Ocean Pines Golf Club is offering a friendly reminder to the community about course access and the importance of respecting the property.

Golf Club staff are focused on ensuring the safety of registered golfers, preserving the course's integrity, and minimizing any potential damage or liability issues.

To help maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all golfers, it is crucial that the public – including nonregistered individuals – refrain from accessing the course. Instances of unauthorized access pose risks such as accidents, property damage, vandalism, and interference with ongoing play.

To prevent such incidents and ensure the well-being of all participants, the Ocean Pines Golf Club would like to reinforce the following guidelines:

  • Restricted access: The golf course is exclusively for registered golfers. No walking, biking, dog walking, or any other activities are permitted on the course. Additionally, no fishing is permitted anywhere on the golf course property.
  • Safety and liability: Unauthorized access to the course can result in potential hazards and liability issues. It is important that community members and their children understand and respect these regulations to ensure the well-being of everyone involved.
  • Property respect: The Ocean Pines Golf Club requests that all visitors to the course remain mindful and respectful of the course and its property. Engaging in any activities that may cause damage or disrupt play is strictly prohibited.

Golf Director Bob Beckelman said there have been incidents involving damage caused by individuals who access the course without authorization. He said these actions not only compromise the course's quality, but also hinder the enjoyment of golf for registered players.

"We kindly ask the community to cooperate and respect our regulations to ensure the safety and satisfaction of all our registered golfers. The golf course is a big asset to our community, and by adhering to the access guidelines we can continue to provide an exceptional golfing experience for everyone," Beckelman said.

Golf Scholarship Deadline April 12

Members of the Ocean Pines Golf Club and the Ocean Pines Golf Members’ Council will award several scholarships to 2024 high school graduates in support of their college plans.

The Scholarship Committee of the Golf Members’ Council will begin meeting in mid-April to review scholarship applications. The committee will announce scholarship awards later in May.

“Those who have an application should return it to their school’s college guidance office by the April 12 deadline,” Scholarship Committee Chairperson Dave McGregor said.

Students seeking an application may download one online at https://oceanpines.org/documents/20124/91011/Scholarship+Application+2024.pdf/20cb8632-f815-e999-431a-40f34d95b6e5?t=1709559493318.

“These scholarships are intended for local 12th-grade students who have shown an interest in golf – active participation in competitive golf is not a requirement,” McGregor said. “Golf team members and recreational golfers, along with those interested in golf management and turf science, are encouraged to apply.”

The Ocean Pines Golf Members’ Council has awarded more than $53,000 to local seniors over the last seven years.
