10 Facts About Golf in Celebration of Earth Day
Golf is a sport for a lifetime that delivers more than 2 million jobs and $69 billion in annual economic impact while contributing $3.9 billion per year for philanthropic causes - more than all other sports combined, according to the Golf Course Superintendents Association of American and the USGA.
A professionally managed golf course also can demonstrate environmental stewardship and provide a place to meet exercise and fitness goals. Just walking 18 holes, for example, can burn more than 2,000 calories.
As part of the celebration of Earth Day on April 22, the GCSAA and the USGA offer 10 facts about golf that help promote the sport and the environment:
Registration Now Open for Summer Jr. Golf Camps
Online registration is now open for Ocean Pines Golf & Country Club's popular summer junior golf camps.
Junior players ages 5-14 of all abilities are encouraged to attend. Instruction in swing basics, rules and etiquette, irons, woods, chipping and putting will be covered by our PGA staff. Campers will spend time at the driving range, putting green and on the course.
Four camp sessions will be offered in 2016, including June 27-30, July 11-14, July 25-28 and August 8-11 from 9:30 am-1 pm each day.
Equitable Stroke Control

Maryland handicap posting for the 2016 season officially begins on Tuesday, March 15. When posting your scores, though, make sure you keep equitable stroke control in mind.
Ocean Pines Golf Changes Walking Policy for Members

Ocean Pines Golf & Country Club has announced a change to its policy for golfers who prefer to walk while playing their rounds. Golfers with memberships at the public course will now be allowed to walk Monday-Thursday, anytime. This is a change to the previous policy, which prohibited walking for all golfers in the morning.
Santa's Open to Return to Ocean Pines Golf & Country Club
The 23rd Annual Santa's Open Charity Golf Tournament will once again be held at Ocean Pines Golf & Country Club! This fun event, which benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake on the Eastern Shore, will take place Saturday, December 5.
