(August 27, 2025) The weather was beautiful as the Ocean Pines Golf Club hosted the Ernie Stiles Memorial Bavarian Hops Golf Classic Friday evening, August 22nd.

A total of 72 participants came out for the 18th annual event, which was founded by the late Ernie Stiles in the early 2000s as a way to go out for 9 holes, have some fun, and support good causes.

Ernie’s son Colby hosted the first hole cheer to raise a drink to the sky, while Darin and Terri Stuiber hosted a “Shot Ski” party at the 7th hole to raise additional money for his charities.

More than $3,000 was raised through the event to benefit Diakonia and the Worcester County Humane Society, with each organization slated to receive over $1,500 from the Ocean Pines Golf Members Council.

Dave McGregor won the Bavarian Hops Match Hat for closest to the pin on the 7th hole at 20.5 inches.

Peggy & Joe Tomarelli, Ed Kessler, and Tracy Jones won the 50/50 as a group and graciously donated it back to the charities.

The Ocean Pines Golf Club thanked Event Chairs Patty Curtin and Don McMullen, as well as the Pro Shop and Clubhouse staff, for another successful event.

OPVFD 2025 Golf Tournament 768x994

The following is a press release from the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department:

(August 13, 2025) The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (OPVFD) is bringing back a community favorite—its Annual Golf Tournament—on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Ocean Pines Golf Club. The event is open to players of all skill levels and will raise critical funds for OPVFD’s operational and capital improvement needs.

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department (OPVFD) will return to its roots with the revival of its Annual Golf Tournament at the Ocean Pines Golf Club. This tradition is making a comeback, offering a full day of competition, camaraderie, and community support.

The tournament will feature a competitive round of golf, contests, raffles, and opportunities to connect with friends and neighbors while raising funds to support OPVFD’s mission. Proceeds will help fund apparatus replacement, training equipment, and the construction of the department’s new South Station, designed to meet current NFPA safety standards and provide modern facilities for career and volunteer members.

Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to register and take part in an event that blends the enjoyment of a day on the course with a direct investment in public safety. Whether competing for top honors or simply enjoying time with friends, every participant will help ensure the department has the resources it needs to serve the community effectively.

Mark your calendars, gather your team, and join OPVFD back on the fairway—because this November, every shot counts toward a safer Ocean Pines.
