Ocean Pines Golf Club Members Participate in “Divot Day” Cleanup

Over 30 Ocean Pines Golf Club members spent the morning as an ad hoc maintenance crew at “Divot Day” on Monday, Aug. 21.
 
The members, organized by Ocean Pines Men’s Golf Association President Don McMullen, helped to fill divots on the course’s tee boxes and fairways.
 
After the event, they enjoyed pizza and beer on the clubhouse patio.

Ocean Pines to Hold Fall Golf Clinics for Women, Juniors

Take to the links this fall and try your hand at golf. Ocean Pines Golf Club will hold four-week golf clinics for women and juniors beginning this September. PGA Director of Golf John Malinowski and golf course professional staff will provide instruction.
 
Children can benefit from a clinic for juniors that will be held on Saturdays from 9-9:45 a.m. or 10-10:45 a.m. starting Sept. 9. Designed for boys and girls ages 5-14, the clinic will provide instruction in swinging, chipping, putting, driving and bunker shots. All skill levels are welcome, and equipment will be provided. Ocean Pines Golf Club’s junior golf clinics are a fun, affordable way to enjoy the sport. The cost is $40 per person.
 
Two golf clinics for women will also be offered this fall. A clinic for intermediate golfers and those wanting to brush up on their skills will be held on Thursdays from 10-10:45 a.m. or 11-11:45 a.m. beginning Sept. 7. The clinic, which is designed for women ages 18 and up, will cover all aspects of the game including woods, irons, chipping and putting. The cost is $50 per person.

OPLGA Members Take Top Honors at Delmarva Golf Tournament

 
Several members of the Ocean Pines Ladies’ Golf Association recently took top honors at the Women’s Delmarva Golf Association Championship held on Thursday, Aug. 10 at Maple Dale Country Club in Dover, Delaware.
 
Meg Herrick earned the title of 2017 Women’s Delmarva Golf Association Champion. Other winners included Deb Schwertner, who won first place for Flight A; Lynn Schneider, who won first place for Flight B and Olga Novy, who won first place for Flight D.
 
The Women’s Delmarva Golf Association is an organization comprised of nine-hole women’s leagues from around the area, including Ocean Pines Golf Club; Ocean City Golf Club; Maple Dale Country Club; Chester River Yacht & Country Club in Chestertown, Maryland; Talbot Country Club in Easton, Maryland; Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Maryland and The Rookery North at Shawnee in Milford, Delaware.

Ocean Pines Golf Club to Host Taylor Bank / Ocean Pines Jr. Golf Scholarship Tournament

The Ocean Pines Golf Members’ Council will host the Taylor Bank / Ocean Pines 33rd Annual Jr. Golf Scholarship Tournament at Ocean Pines Golf Club on Wednesday, Aug. 16 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
 
This annual event benefits junior golf in the area by helping support junior golf clinics and an annual tournament for junior golfers. It also raises funds for scholarships that are presented to local high school seniors who have expressed an interest in golf.
 
The public entry fee is $80 per person, which includes greens fee, cart, team prizes, men’s and ladies’ closest-to-the-pin prizes, door prizes, continental breakfast, on-course refreshments and lunch at the Tern Grille following the tournament. The entry fee for Ocean Pines golf members with a cart package is $50 and $65 for members without a cart package.

Junior Golf Tournament Scheduled at Ocean Pines Golf Club

Ocean Pines Golf Club will host its annual Junior Golf Tournament for boys and girls ages 5-18 on Wednesday, July 19 beginning at noon. The event is open to the public.
 
Players will be grouped according to age and/or ability. Male and female divisions will also be created if sufficient registrations are received. All skill levels are welcome.
 
Ages 5-8 will play three holes, ages 9-11 will play six holes, ages 12-13 will play nine holes and ages 14-18 will play 18 holes. Tournament participants will be required to walk, although push carts are allowed. Parents may follow along on the course; a golf cart fee will apply for those parents wishing to ride.
