Maintenance and repairs begin at the Ocean Pines Golf Course

(September 4, 2025) The Ocean Pines Golf Course will undergo several maintenance projects over the coming months, with some already underway.
“We have many projects in motion to further enhance the golf experience in the future, so we appreciate patience as we continue to work on repairs and improvements,” said General Manager John Viola.
Tee Boxes
Crews have started prepping the three tees on Hole #3 for the installation of iron cutter bermudagrass sod, which is scheduled to be delivered Thursday, September 4th. Temporary tee locations will be used for the next several weeks so the sod can be established. Collar areas are also scheduled for new sod, with aerification already underway.
Greens & Sand Traps
Weed removal efforts are also underway, including both spraying and manual removal, which will continue into next week. We are also looking at extended hours towards sand trap maintenance.

Fairways
On the fairways, most areas have been walk-aerified and seeded. While ongoing drought conditions are not ideal for seed growth, staff are using supplemental irrigation to encourage germination. Granular fertilizer is expected to be applied late this week or early next week.

Irrigation System

Bulkhead (Fairway 18)
In order to increase water levels in the pond, we will be replacing the bulkhead and dredging the pond along the 18th Green and Fairway. By increasing the water level, there will be less of a need to pump water from the aquifer. No timeframe is locked in for this project yet, but the target for completion is winter 2026.

Director of Golf Maintenance Justin Hartshorne says extra hours may be necessary for his full-time maintenance team, depending on weather impacts to these projects.
