The public is invited to enjoy a fun morning of golf at the 34th Annual Taylor Bank / Ocean Pines Golf Tournament to benefit junior golf on Wednesday, June 13 at 9 am. The tournament, with the generous support of Taylor Bank and other local businesses, is a major fundraising event that has allowed Ocean Pines Golf Club the ability to conduct junior golf clinics, a junior golf invitational tournament and donate at least $3,000 per year in scholarships to local students.
The tournament format is a four-person modified scramble; teams must use each player's drive two times. The entry fee is $50 for Ocean Pines golf members with a cart package, $65 for Ocean Pines golf members without a cart package and $80 for the public.
For the first time ever, Ocean Pines Golf Club has added two sets of “family” tees, which offer a shorter playing alternative for juniors and those just learning to play the sport.
According to PGA Director of Golf John Malinowski, regular tees can present too much of a challenge for developing players. “You wouldn’t, for example, put a little kid in the batter’s box against a major league pitcher. The reduced yardage of the family tees makes our championship course accessible to and fun for players of all abilities,” he said.
The new tees, identified with orange and green golf ball tee markers, range in distance from 65 yards to 250 yards per hole for the shorter set and 85 yards to 300 yards for the slightly longer set.
